Cynthia Aghunotse Olufade of our programme in Diaspora and Transnational Studies (DTS) is the 2018 winner of the prestigious Africa Thesis Award of the African Studies Centre Leiden, the Netherlands, with her MA thesis titled ‘Oath Taking and the Transnationalism of Silence among Edo Female Sex Workers in Italy’.
On the 1st of November 2018, the annual Convocation Exhibition of the University of Ibadan kicked off at the Cornelius Adepegba Museum of African Art (CAMAA) of our Institute. The opening ceremony of this tenth edition of the Convocation Exhibition coincided with the formal renaming of our Institute’s Museum after late Prof Cornelius Adepegba, the first Honorary Curator of the IAS Museum and a former IAS Director.

As part of our tradition of recognizing and celebrating excellence, we received today our three Distinguished Fellows, whose appointment to that position has been ratified by the Senate of the University of Ibadan.
Professors Dan Izevbaye, David Okpako and Biodun Jeyifo do not require any introduction, being scholars of global renown. Their appointment to the position of Distinguished Fellows of our Institute further demonstrates our interest in grounding our endeavours on solid intellectual foundations established by luminaries in the different fields that have a bearing on knowledge production and consumption in Africa.

On Friday, 9 March 2018 IAS-UI academic staff met with the research team of the Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA, Nigeria) at the IAS Coffee Room in a conversation on research interests and areas of possible collaboration.
The Women’s Research and Documentation Centre (WORDOC) on Thursday, 8 March marked the International Women’s Day with a roundtable at Lady Bank-Anthony Hall on Women’s Agenda for the 2019 General Elections. The theme of this roundtable was Pragmatic Inclusion in the #PressforProgress.
24 MA students of our Institute, done with writing up their dissertations, had their oral examinations on Wednesday 7 March 2018 to determine their eligibility for the award of the degree.
