The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Jérôme Pasquier, paid us a courtesy visit this week as part of his tour of the University of Ibadan.

IAS-UI has since 1990 played host to the Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA), whose offices are located within our premises, and with whom we collaborate on a number of research and scholarly projects.

French Entourage IAS Meeting 2019

Meeting with the Ambassador's entourage

The meeting with Ambassador Pasquier and his entourage in the office of the IAS Director provided an occasion for commenting on the fruitfulness of IAS-IFRA relations over the decades, as well as for considering ways in which more networks of educational collaboration between Nigeria and France can be built and promoted. The discussion also highlighted the efforts and initiatives that IAS and IFRA have brought to fruition under the tenure of IFRA's current Director, Dr Elodie Apard, covering joint conferences, seminars, workshops, and IFRA sponsorship of outstanding IAS students, among other projects.

Ambassador Pasquier's visit to our Institute surely indicates the significance of the IAS-IFRA partnership, and signposts a commitment to making this partnership even more impactful in relation to research and scholarship, and the outcomes of these activities for the larger society.
