The works of a group of young Nigerian artists will be on exhibition at the Museum of the Institute from the 15th to the 30th of this month.
The exhibition tagged Convergence, curated by the Director of the Institute, Dr O.I. Pogoson, features Segun Fagurosi, Femi Oyewole and Rashidat Ibrahim, all of whom are recent graduates of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Fagurosi is currently on the master’s degree programme in Visual Arts at IAS.
Convergence promises to be a revelation of three talents who are already making a mark on the Nigerian artistic landscape, as witnessed by the fact that they have been gathering laurels here and there in local competitions for young artists. The artists may have trained together, but they pursue different stylistic routes. Watch out for Ibrahim’s shaded woolwork, Oyewole’s deployment of a knowing hazy finish in his depiction of cityscapes, and Fagurosi’s ability to capture the dramatic moments of everyday life.
The exhibition shall be declared open at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th by the medical doctor and author, Abimbola Lagunju.
Make it a date!
