Plans towards the 3rd International Symposium on Ogori Culture and People are already under way as IAS-UI liaises with the Association of African Universities (AAU), the Department of Linguistics, University of Ilorin, the National Open University of Nigeria, and other partners at home and abroad to organize this event.

This year’s symposium, which comes up on 3 May, 2019, is on the theme of Mother Tongue Literacy, with presenters expected to dissect issues relating to indigenous first-language usage from diverse disciplinary vantages, including folklore, literature, orthography, language and culture, language and history, women’s studies, language and diaspora, language, music and dance, language and ICTs, language endangerment, etc.

We hereby invite scholars and researchers to send expressions of interest either as proposals or as papers to any of the underlisted members of the Organizing Committee by 4 March, 2019. Presentations at the Symposium will be published in a special edition of our Institute’s journal, African Notes.

Further details shall be made available as the date of the Symposium draws near, and selected participants will receive the full programme of the Symposium by April 15, 2019.

On the 4th of May, participants at the Symposium may also join in the annual Ovia-Osese Festival and Dance of the Maidens.
