The weeklong annual conference of the African Studies Students’ Association (ASSA) of IAS-UI will hold from the 20th to 24th November.

Usually a week packed with programmes and events that seek to speak critically to the realities of the African predicament and celebrate the Pan-African vision as a key aspect of the humanist movement, the year’s conference promises a multi-dimensional suite of activities, including public lectures, seminars, film screenings, debate, games, and more.

The theme of the celebration is Africa Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Lessons Learned, Challenges and Opportunities. A keynote address on this theme will be delivered by Prof Adeniyi Olowofela, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology. Guest speakers include Prof Remi Raji-Oyelade of the Department of English, UI, Dr C.O. Jegede of IAS-UI, Dr Tunde Adegbola,, an indigenous language technologist and activist, and Mrs Edem Ossai, a social entrepreneur who took her MA in our Cultural and Media Studies unit.
